For many years aerobic exercisers, joggers, weight lifters and other exerciser had the option of listening to music as they exercised. Whether it was a portable cassette player, a portable radio or later the MP3 player these exercisers could drift away into their music as they went through their workout. However, until recently, swimmers had to struggle through the boredom of their workout with only the sound of splashing water to listen to. That is until the arrival of the waterproof MP3 players.
The first MP3 player came out in 1998 it was Eiger Labs’ MPMan F10. Their compact size, low cost and ability to hold several hours of your favorite music is what has made MP3 players highly sought after around the world. However waterproof MP3 players didn’t start showing up until around 2004. As we all know mixing water and electronics can have disastrous results. But with new innovative technology manufacturers have made it possible to use an MP3 player, which is an electronic device, under water. This makes your MP3 player the perfect companion for any water activity like water skiing, surfing, scuba diving or snorkeling.
Waterproof MP3 players are not only good for music to help you endure the boredom and tediousness of your swimming exercise, you can also use them for inspiration. You can load pod casts or recordings of trainers on them to inspire you to do more laps or swim longer. There’s nothing more helpful than having someone helping you, encouraging you and pushing you to do your best and with these players you can have someone there every time you exercise.
There are a lot of waterproof MP3 players on the market such as the Speedo AquaBeat or the FINIS SwiMP3. They all come with the ability to connect to a computer whether it’s a PC or a Mac in order to download music and other sound files. Some players use SD or Flash cards for storage while others have internal storage, they all vary in how many hours of playtime you get per battery charge and they can range in price from sixty dollars to a little over two hundred dollars. It is up to you to decide what price you want to pay and what features are important to you.
